Replay instructions:
-
Get a working Commodore VIC 20 plus a 16 kb memory expansion module. Ebay is full of such stuff. Be sure to search for "vc20" as well as for "vic20" as the machine went under both names.
-
Get a computer with a LPT printer port running MS-DOS. Old IBM Thinkpads, like the 760 XL, are a good choice. Again: Ebay.
-
Install 64HDD on the MS-DOS computer and connect it to the VIC 20 with a so-called X-Cable. You can find these cables on Ebay as well or read the 64HDD instructions on how to make one yourself.
-
Get Daniel Kahlin's VIC Tracker and copy the executable to your 64HDD togetehr with DEFINE.VT
If you have to use an emulator, try VICE. However the synthetic noise will not sound as awesome as a real VIC 20 would spit it.
Isn't it fantastic how one can make music with almost everything?
Enjoy!
